Despite a fifth place finish in its league, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team managed to receive four selections to the All-South Coast Conference North Division Team.
A difficult season for the Pasadena City College women's soccer team came to a close Thursday when Long Beach City College defeated the visiting Lancers, 2-0. It was the 12th time in 2016 that PCC was left off the scoreboard.
It had been a long time since the Pasadena City College women's soccer team had scored a goal. In fact, after seven straight shutouts (0-6-1), the Lancers wondered if they would ever net another one. On Friday, PCC found its touch with Sandra Ambrosio scoring three second-half goals in a 5-0, South Coast Conference crossover win over hapless El Camino-Compton Center at Robinson Stadium.
The first trip through the South Coast Conference North Division was as rough as it could get for the Pasadena City College women's soccer team. The Lancers fell to 0-4 in conference play following a disappointing 3-0 loss to previously winless East Los Angeles, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Robinson Stadium.
The Pasadena City College women's soccer team may have lost to undefeated Chaffey Friday, but the Lancers found their goalie in converted forward Isabel Diaz. The freshman from Alverno High used her athleticism and quickness along with the help of defensive play by Aisling O'Beirne and Janel Ismail to keep the Panthers in check for most of the game in a 1-0 loss at Robinson Stadium.
Midfielder Sandra Ambrosio, a returning All-South Coast Conference performer, used her potent left foot to help the Pasadena City College women's soccer team defeat Glendale, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Robinson Stadium Tuesday. The Lancers extended their unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2).
If it seemed like the field was tilted one way at Robinson Stadium Tuesday, it was. The Pasadena City College women's soccer team blasted away with 25 shot attempts and held visiting San Diego City to no shots in a 2-0, non-conference shutout. It was the Lancers first win in 2016 as they improved to 1-3-1.
Two positive things happened early in the Pasadena City College women's soccer team's non-conference match September 6 at Norco College. First, the Lancers scored their first two goals of the season after suffering shutout defeats in their first two games against Santa Ana and West Los Angeles. Second, PCC had the luxury of building a 2-0 lead against the host Mustangs.
The Pasadena City College women's soccer team has re-loaded its 2016 roster with 16 incoming freshmen as the Lancers plan on carrying their largest roster in the four seasons under head coach Reggie Rivas. Depth will be a key component for Pasadena as it looks to improve on a middle of the pack finish (fifth place) in the South Coast Conference last year.
