1938 Pasadena Junior College Football Team
Induction Year: 2016

The ’38 squad was one of three teams in the college’s history to play a perfect season at 11-0 under the direction of head coach Tom Mallory. The team featured none other than 20th century sports icon Jackie Robinson, who played a variety of positions including quarterback as he rushed for more than 1,000 yards and set school records for touchdowns and points scored. Robinson’s records would stand for 63 years. Ray Bartlett and Clem Tomerlin were two other members of the team that later joined Robinson as selected members of the PCC Sports Hall of Fame. Robinson, Bartlett and Don Winder were named to the Helms All-State Team. The squad was explosive offensively, averaging a then record 33.5 points a game, and had a stifling defense, one that recorded five shutouts. The Bulldogs captured what was then the highest title it could achieve, the Southern California Western Division crown. The HOF selection committee felt it was fitting that the inaugural team to enter the PCC Sports Hall of Fame was this special squad. Jackie Robinson is in the top row, third from the right in No. 55. Coach Mallory is the insert mug in lower left of photo. The entire image below was created by Mallory to honor his team's achievement that year.
