Playing for Pasadena Junior College, Dave Freeman won the 1938 Southern California tennis singles title as well as the Ojai championship. Freeman went on to become the greatest badminton player in American history. He won seven U.S. singles crowns and was world champion in 1949. Freeman never lost a singles match in U.S. competition from 1939-1949. A brilliant man, Freeman earned a bachelor's degree from Pomona College where he was student-body president. He later graduated from Harvard Medical School and became a neurosurgeon based in San Diego, performing surgeries for more than 40 years. Freeman was the first American inducted into the International Badminton Hall of Fame in 1997.
