Jack Tingley was perhaps the greatest swimmer in PCC history. In 1972, he set then national JC records in four individual freestyle events--200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650-yard distances). He was on two national record relay teams as well. Named Metropolitan Conference Swimmer of the Year, he helped the Lancers win the '72 state team championship. Tingley also lettered in water polo at PCC. He earned a scholarship to USC where he helped the Trojans win the 1974 NCAA team championship. Tingley set the U.S. record for the 1,650 (mile swim) in '73 and won the NCAA individual title that season.
