For the Pasadena City College baseball team's lettermen, the last time they faced Glendale was the worst kind of defeat. In the deciding third game in last year's SoCal Regional Playoffs series, The Vaqueros rallied from a 5-1 deficit after six innings and ended PCC's 2018 season. One Lancer itching to face Glendale again was pitching ace Gordon Ingebritson.
The All-South Coast Conference First Team righthander did his job in last year's postseason in throwing a complete-game, 7-hitter in PCC's playoff-opening 3-2 win. On Wednesday, Ingebritson was even better, shutting down Glendale's bats again by allowing only five hits and no walks over eight innings as the Lancers at least found a little payback in an 11-1 rout over the Vaqueros. It was Pasadena's third straight win on their homestand at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Field as the team upped their record to 6-3.
Other lettermen helping the team's 16-hit attack included shortstop Ryan Lewis, who was 2-for-4 in belting two doubles and leftfielder Edward Manzo, who ripped a 2-RBI single in the Lancers' 4-run fourth inning and finished with three runs driven in. Freshman third baseman Marco Martinez was 2-for-3 with a booming double, two walks, and two RBI while transfer switch-hitting catcher Cole Pilar also reached base safely four times (2-for-3), picking up a double and two walks.
Red-hot hitting rookie centerfielder Gabriel Arellano had three straight hits to start the game, and finished 3-for-6, scoring three runs. Arellano raised his team-best batting average to .467 as he has seven multiple-hit games and is 7-for-his-last-11 over the last two wins. He has a 9-game hitting streak overall.
First-year second baseman Andrew Scannell batted 3-for-5 and frosh first baseman Vic Zepeda belted two line drive hits, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Sophomore reliever Frank Gonzalez threw a strong ninth inning with two strikeouts to close Ingebritson's gem. Defensively, Lewis twice made leaping grabs on liners, one he turned into a double play.
Weather permitting, Coach Pat McGee's Lancers host West Los Angeles Thursday, Feb. 21 in a 2 p.m. game. PCC wiped out the Wildcats, 21-2, on the road Feb. 6.
