The Pasadena City College baseball team carried nine sophomores on the 2024 team with six now committed to playing at the next level, head coach Pat McGee announced today.
"We had two players that are no longer playing and one who is still considering offers, so we nearly have our entire sophomore class playing at 4-year universities," McGee said.
After Jameson Ferraro signed with NCAA Division I University of Central Arkansas a few weeks ago, five other Lancers are officially moving to the next level on scholarships in shortstop Jack Esguerra at Cal State Los Angeles, second baseman Ivan Barragan at Hope International, catcher Mark Manuel at Lenoir-Rhyne in North Carolina, and third baseman Jaden Guzman and relief pitcher Jacob Fox, both at the *University of La Verne.
Since taking over the PCC program in 2015, McGee has now sent 66 Lancers to play at the university level, including a high of 11 from the 2019 squad.
Esguerra, who hit .383 in 40 games, led the South Coast Conference in hits with 64 along with 12 doubles and PCC-best 31 RBI. The two-year letterman, known for his outstanding defense, was an All-SCC First Team selection.
Barragan, also a 2-year starter, batted .286 with 15 RBI this past season, while Manuel, a transfer from Mt. San Antonio, batted .296 while driving in 25 runs.
The Lancers made it to the Southern California Regional Playoffs for the sixth consecutive season and posted a 23-18 overall record. Esguerra and Barragan also played on the '23 Lancers, who won 25 games and had the most wins ever in SCC play with 17.
