All-SCC First Team Richman Leads #22 Baseball v. #3 Palomar In Regionals

Bryan Richman, the Lancers lone All-South Coast Conference First Team selection, leads the #22 seed Pasadena City College baseball into the program's seventh straight postseason as it faces #3 Palomar in a Southern California Regional, Round 1, best-of-3 series May 2-3.

Richman was selected First Team for the second time in his two PCC seasons last night at the SCC Coaches postseason meeting held at Cerritos College. 

The sophomore second baseman-utility player batted .392 with 21 RBI in the 24-game conference schedule. Overall, Richman is hitting .362 with a team-highs in runs scored (52), hits (57), and stolen bases (seven) while he is on a school-record hitting streak, now at 28 games.

Also earning All-SCC Second Team selections were freshman catcher Joaquin Salcedo, overall team leader in doubles (16), triples (four), home runs (tied with seven), RBI (38), slugging percentage (.705) and total extra-base hits (27); sophomore centerfielder Tyler Garcia, .352, tied with Salcedo in homers with seven, 33 RBI, team-highs in walks (23) and on-base percentage (.490); and frosh reliever Matt Garcia, 4-0 record with four saves, 20 strikeouts in 20 appearances (33.1 innings).

Pasadena (21-16 overall) faces Palomar for the second time in the playoffs, losing to the Comets in a series that went the limit in 2022. In that season, PCC won the middle game, 9-7, before being eliminated the same day, 11-4, in the tie-breaking third game.

The Lancers finished tied for fourth place with two other teams in SCC play at 12-12.

Palomar (30-10) is the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champion and was ranked #6 on the final regular season CCCSIA sports information State Top 25 poll. The Comets are on an 8-game win streak. Palomar is paced by five All-PCAC First Team selections in catcher Carter Jorissen (.379, 29 RBI), second baseman Jordan Treadwell (.310), centerfielder Justin Tucker (.343, three HR, 40 RBI), leftfielder Braedon Peterson-Cheek (.337), and utility player Brendan Shanahan (.372). 

Neither team played it each other in the regular season and both teams did not play a single team in the other's conference. The two teams last met on April 8, 2023 with Palomar winning an 8-3 home contest.
