Ten More PCC Football Players Advance To Next Level

Pasadena City College Director of Football Operations/Head Coach Robert Tucker announced nine more Lancers from the 2022 team are at 4-year universities on scholarships while a 10th player is now a walk-on at USC in tight end Cameron Woods. The '22 squad has produced 16 transfers overall, the most placed by the college since 2019.

The second wave of Lancers transfers includes five gaining NCAA Division I scholarships in linebacker/defensive end Jaylon McGee (Long Island University, Brooklyn, N.Y.), defensive lineman Carlos Ramirez (Duquesne, Pittsburgh, Pa.), linebacker Jordan Monroe (Northern Illinois), safety Roland "Kea" Rodrigues (Hawaii), and defensive back Noah Schwartz (Butler, Indiana).

Now at D2 universities are safety Osvaldo Raigosa (Bemidji State, Minnesota), cornerback Secil Ackah (Northern State, South Dakota), and tight end Isaiah Smalls (Texas A&M Kingsville). Linebacker Brian Payne is at D3 University of La Verne.

Woods, who had never played football until his senior year at Brentwood School, caught six passes, including one touchdown for the Lancers last year as a redshirt freshman. His imposing 6-foot-4, 245-pound frame impressed the Trojans enough that he is listed on this year's roster.

McGee (Charter Oak HS) became a 2-time, All-SCFA American Mountain League First Team selection on defense after finishing second on the Lancers in tackles (52), sacks (eight), and quarterback hurries (six). He finished with 99 career tackles, 10 sacks and 19.5 tackles for lost yardage.

Named to the All-State Region IV Team, Ramirez (Muir High) is a 2-time, All-SCFA selection who made 46 tackles, a team-high 11 sacks (sixth in the state), and added three quarterback hurries. His 16.5 tackles for loss was eighth best in California. In his career, Ramirez totaled 16.5 sacks and 27.5 of his 83 tackles were made behind the line of scrimmage. He totaled 11 QB hurries, a team-high eight as a freshman in 2021.

Another 2-time, All-SCFA choice is Monroe, who made 48 tackles, a team-high 11 quarterback hurries, six sacks, and forced three fumbles last year. Monroe (Charter Oak) was All-State as a freshman when he was chosen Player of the Game in the Lancers SoCal Bowl championship win in 2021. He ran back an interception 97 yards for a touchdown in the team's 28-21 win over Santa Ana. In his career, Monroe had 87 tackles (20.5 behind the scrimmage line), 9.5 sacks, and three interceptions.

Schwartz (Churchill HS, San Antonio, Tx.), who transferred to PCC after a year at D3 Oberlin College (Ohio), made the most of his Lancers experience by parlaying it into a D1 scholarship with two years of eligibility remaining. Schwartz totaled 27 tackles and four pass break-ups.

Rodrigues, a 2-time all-conference choice, returns to his home state for football (Moanalua High, Hawaii) after recording 33 tackles, two sacks and three pass breakups in 2022. In his two Lancers seasons, he totaled 82 tackles and broke up 10 passes.

Selected All-State this past season, Raigosa (Gabrielino High) led the 2022 Lancers in overall tackles (58) and solos (38) with two interceptions, two breakups and a sack. In his career, the twice All-SCFA chosen defensive back totaled seven interceptions, seven pass breakups, 71 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Ackah (Elsinore HS, Lake Elsinore) transfers out as a sophomore after amassing 18 tackles, four pass break-ups while blocking two kicks. Smalls (Dorsey High), who played at Oregon State back in 2018, caught 21 passes for 207 yards with two touchdowns. He was selected All-SCFA Second Team.

Payne, a 2-year PCC letterman, made 29 tackles with a sack last season.
