On the rush of being selected #23 in this week's State Top 30, the Pasadena City College men's basketball team led nearly the entire 40 minutes of an 84-63 triumph at Los Angeles Southwest College on Wednesday night. The Lancers opened the new year by extending their win streak to five games.

PCC (11-6 overall) opened a 19-6 lead on a Shant Chenorhavorian 3-pointer and never were tested by the host Cougars (7-7). LASW got to within four at the start of the second half at 37-33, but a basket-and-one by Jayden Winfrey and a fastbreak bucket by Rande Harper lifted the PCC lead back to nine points. Three consecutive triples by Harper, center Nigel Wilson, and Chenorhavorian put the game away at 70-50 with 6:20 left

Harper led the way for the Lancers by scoring a 18 points, making 8-for-13 from the field. Chenorhavorian came off the bench to net 16, including four treys, while Jonathan Tchengang collected a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Point guard Jayden Winfrey added five points, 10 assists, and three steals. Wilson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor for 11 points plus nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Nurridin Abdur-Rahmann scored 10 points in reserve.

The PCC defense was sharp with 15 steals by seven players and produced five charging fouls on LASW, three by Winfrey.

On Friday, Jan. 6, the Lancers return to Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium to face state #11 Los Angeles Harbor College in a 7 p.m. tip-off.
