Following Wednesday's 78-59 victory at Compton College, the Pasadena City College men's basketball team had long-time fans wondering when the last time a Lancers squad had won seven straight games. You have to go back to the 1999-2000 team, the only South Coast Conference champion in the school's history, as the last to perform the feat.

The state #23-ranked Lancers upped their sparkling record to 13-6 by winning another SCC crossover game v. the Tartars. PCC last lost to College of the Redwoods back on Dec. 15 and have won now four in a row against the conference's South Division as part of the win streak.

PCC never trailed v. Compton, but were tied three times in the first half, eventually taking a 38-36 halftime lead. Early in the second half, center Nigel Wilson scored seven straight points in a 2-minute span that upped the advantage to 46-38. With under nine minutes remaining, Jordan Flowers came off the bench to force three steals and his 3-pointer closed out a 12-4 spurt that advanced the PCC lead to 63-47.

Late in the contest, Jonathan Tchengang scored baskets on three straight possessions to put the finishing touches on the Lancers triumph.

Pasadena shot 52.5 percent from the field with guard Myles Watkins making 9 of 12 attempts as part of his 20 points. Wilson matched Watkins in scoring 20 points and added 12 rebounds while blocking five shots. Point guard Jayden Winfrey tallied 11 points, six assists and made four steals. Tchengang totaled eight points, 10 boards, and five assists.

In reserve, Nurridin Abdur-Rahmann added seven points and Flowers five in his four minutes of action.

PCC looks to make it eight in a row on Friday, Jan. 13 when it travels to face #30-rated Long Beach City College. Tip-off for the final SCC crossover contest is 7 p.m.
