Off to the program's best start in five seasons under head coach Gerry Mora, the Pasadena City College men's soccer team advanced its record to 4-1-2 overall by controlling the entire 90 minutes of a 5-0 blanking of visiting Victor Valley College on Friday.

Osmar Rojas scored two goals and an assist while Esai Matchan added a goal and two helpers as PCC outshot the VVC, 25-3.

In the 21st minute, Matchan received a smart pass into the box by Jordy Aviles and his shot just snuck into the left corner of the net for what proved to be all the offense the Lancers would need. It was Matchan's fourth goal of the season.

In the 31st minute, Matchan dropped a pass back to Rojas who knocked in a shot from the 5-yard line for a 2-0 lead. Less than two minutes before halftime, Brian Asaije finished on a combo play with assists by Rojas and Mike Sampson

In the 82nd minute, Dominic Avalos mishit a drive that soared like a punt a football. A high hop off the turf confused the Rams' backup goalie Raymond Jauregui as the ball bounced over his head and Aviles headed in the goal. PCC closed out the scoring on a blast by Rojas, who also scored his fourth goal, once again off a pass by Matchan.

Kristopher Gutierrez made three saves over the first 84 minutes and combined with Chris Morazan for the shutout.

Diego Flores, Santiago Rivera and Aviles defended the Lancers side of the field flawlessly as PCC carried the play offensively.

"Esai and Osmar have sparked us as a great offensive duo," said PCC head coach Gerry Mora. "We were able to play a large number of our reserves in the second half and the effort and competitiveness is coming out from our entire squad. We just need to keep the momentum and confidence going."

PCC next hosts Imperial Valley on Friday, Sept. 23 in a 2 p.m. kickoff.
