Host Los Angeles City College kept the pressure on the Pasadena City College men's soccer team Tuesday night in the South Coast Conference opener for both schools. While the Lancers defense kept its poise for most of the match, a bad break in the way of an own goal broke a scoreless tie in the 55th minute as the Cubs handed PCC a 2-0 defeat.

The Lancers dropped to 6-3-2 after being outshot by LACC (8-2-2), 25-11.

Solid backfield defensive play by Jordy Aviles, Edson Zamarron, and Diego Flores and strong midfield play by Omar Gonzalez kept things out of harm's way in front of PCC goalie Kristopher Gutierrez (made five saves). However, a long ball by LA City's Vicente Martinez was accidentally redirected into the PCC net by defender Eric Borja

LACC continued to press and eventually scored again in the 89th minute when Andrew Luna rebounded a goal after Gutierrez made the initial point-blank save on Felipe Alvarez.

The Lancers didn't have many opportunities, but in the 78th minute had perhaps their best chance when Osmar Rojas fired a drive from 15 yards out that was stopped by LA City goalie Edward Fletes.

PCC was blanked for the second straight game.

The Lancers hope to get back on the scoreboard and victory board on Friday, Oct. 7 when they host LA Harbor in a 4 p.m. conference tilt.
