The Pasadena City College men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the young season by edging host Victor Valley, 1-0, on Tuesday.

In just the third minute, frosh midfielder Jorky Aguirre crossed a ball 25 yards to the right side of the field that was fielded by Juaning Balmelli. The sophomore midfielder promptly headed the ball down for sophomore defender Angel Nolasco, who fired a shot from 18 yards out into the corner of the net for the game's lone goal.

"It was tough to play in this weather, heat and wind was something to adapt to, but we got a good result away from home," said PCC head coach Francisco Cantero. "On a day like this we had to make plenty of rotations but guys like Emiliano Escobar, Chris Amador, Miguel Medina, and Angel Ballesteros did great when they got the opportunity to play."

Starting goalie Gabriel Ponce and William Southam each combined for the shutout, playing one half each.

On Friday, Sept. 1, the Lancers make their 2023 home debut with a 1 p.m. non-conference game v. Southwestern at Robinson Stadium.
