When it comes to Spring sports roster numbers, the best intentions for many coaches throughout the state have been stifled by first the COVID-19 pandemic, a shortened season with no champions in 2020, a cancelled season for 2021, and a 2022 season that has its roadblocks.

For the Pasadena City College men's swim team, it learned that it would be without the PCC Aquatic Center, which was closed for the '22 season, forcing the Lancers off-campus to practice at nearby Pasadena Poly School. Most of PCC's meets will be held at fellow South Coast Conference swim facilities.

PCC is carrying currently just three swimmers after having one of its deepest rosters of 18 in 2020. Only Aramiss Youngblood (El Monte High) returns from that squad as he is joined by touted freshman freestyler Sam Regan (Arroyo High) and Vincent Barragan (Pasadena HS).

At the season-opening SCC Pentathlon at El Camino College on Feb. 18, Regan swam 12th in the 100-yard butterfly (60.78 seconds), 17th in the 200 individual medley (2:18.48), and 28th in the 100 freestyle (56.02).

At the Mt. SAC Invitational on Feb. 25-26, Regan swam a personal best 18:28.24 to place fourth in the 1,650 freestyle event. He scored fourth as well in the 200 butterfly (2:21.82), placed seventh in the 500 freestyle (5:22.37), and scored ninth in the 400 IM (4:57.59). He also was 16th in the 100 butterfly (1:01.06) and 17th in the 200 IM (2:19.22). The uber athlete Regan ran on the 2021 PCC men's cross country team.

Knowing scoring points will be hard to gather, PCC will swim in SCC dual team meets beginning on Friday, March 4 in a double dual v. Mt. San Antonio, and the host Warriors at El Camino College.
