Sam Regan and Maxwell Ribaya each collected three event wins to lead the Pasadena City College men's swim team to its first South Coast Conference dual meet victory in three years on Friday. PCC defeated Chaffey, 120-108, in the event held at Polytechnic School in Pasadena.

Honored in a pre-meet ceremony as the team's lone sophomore, Regan took first place in the 1,000 freestyle (10:54.83), the 200 free (1:56.17) and 500 free (5:18.06). His win in the 200 was the race of the day as he just edged out Chaffey's Darian Sanchez by a wall touch, winning by only .03 of a second.

Ribaya's event wins came in the 100 backstroke (56.34), 100 freestyle (50.98) and 100 butterfly (56.59). Robert Robles added perhaps the next best swim of the day as the R's have it with a 24.80, second-place finish in the 50 free.

The 200 medley relay squad also won to start the meet as Ribaya, Javier Becerra, Regan and Robles swam a time of 1:49.60.

Second place finishes were posted by Becerra in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.70), Darren Yan in the 200 backstroke (2:49.48), Hazem Ahmed in the 200 butterfly (2:55.34), and Collin Chong in the 500 freestyle (6:06.95).

"Chaffey won just as many events as us (seven each), so like a team we needed the secondary swimmers to score high enough and we did just that," said a thrilled head coach Terry Stoddard, whose team won its first SCC dual meet since the COVID-19 shortened season of 2020. Ironically, it was nearly three years ago to the day v. the same squad--Chaffey.

That meet was the last one to be swam at the PCC Aquatic Center, dormant from competitive team use since that season due to interior pool damage.

PCC next takes part in a SCC double dual meet v. El Camino and host Long Beach CC on Friday, Mar. 17 at 10 a.m.
