Anthony Pequeno impressed many as he raced the state's eighth fastest time this year in the 200 meters for the Pasadena City College men's track and field team's top performance at the South Coast Conference Championships held at Long Beach CIty College on Saturday.

Pequeno bolted near the front for most of the first 150 meters as he finished with a time of 21.27, good enough for second place to champion Marques Guzman, his 20.98 the second fastest in California this year. Ironically, the 200 South Coast record is held by PCC's own Edino Steele, a Lancers Hall of Famer, who raced 20.58 at the 2007 conference finals.

PCC placed sixth in the SCC team standings with 21 points with Pequeno being a part of all of the scoring. The freshman scored sixth in the 400 at 50.43 (his fastest is 49.01, 20th in the state) and he participated on both relays.

Pequeno anchored the 4x400 relay that placed fourth with teammates Devin Hardy, Travon Avery and Jamir Allen in a time of 3:20.19. That time is the squad's fastest mark this year and currently 14th in the state.

Coach Innocent Egbunike's Lancers were fifth in the 4x100 (42.46) behind the sprinting of Jayden Jordan, Avery, Pequeno and Allen. PCC's fastest 2025 mark is 42.10 at the Moorpark Invite (18th in state).

PCC next participates in the Southern California Prelims on Saturday, May 3 at Saddleback College.
