The Pasadena City College men's and women's teams scored as teams for the first time in three meets on Friday as the Lancers women scored in 13th place and PCC men took 21st at the Golden West Classic.
In the women's 5-kilometer race at Central Park in Huntington Beach, Ashley Sosa ran to a 40th place finish out of 141 runners overall with a time of 22:27.94. Sosa, in her first collegiate race, was 12th among South Coast Conference individual racers while Cerritos won the team title.
Following Sosa were Jaylin Morgan in 78th (24:06), and newcomers Kayley Bond in 82nd (24:14) and Rubi Ochoa in 86th (24:24). Emily Dean (139th, 36:15) and Dalila Martinez (140th, 36:51) also placed.
In the men's 4-mile race, Cerritos also won the team title while Luca Augustyn was the Lancers' fastest male runner for the second time in three meets in 125th place overall (24:00.53). Maxime Slek placed 139th (24:20), Ryan Wun was 170th (25:28), Atticus Murphy scored in 174th (25:40), Dylan Le Marsma took 209th (27:07), Lucas Plascencia raced 212th (27:11), Omar Morales came in 215th (27:19), and Isaac Otero placed 229th (28:21).
A large field of 276 runners from 24 colleges participated.
Coach Innocent Egbunike's squads will next race at the SoCal Preview Meet to take place October 4 at Chaffey College. The meet was postponed from Sept. 13 due to poor air conditions in San Bernardino County on that date because of the wildfires in the area.
