It started with a bang on a leadoff home run by Breanna Negrete as the Pasadena City College softball team went on to post its first win of the 2025 season, 9-4, in a South Coast Conference game at East Los Angeles on Friday afternoon.

The Lancers (1-6 overall, 1-2 in SCC play) immediately received a burst of momentum on catcher Negrete's blast over the left-center field fence. PCC scored two runs in the first, then two in the second and three more in the third to take a 7-2 lead.

Pasadena collected season highs in hits (11) and runs as Negrete, first baseman Adriana Valdez, and designated player Elizabeth Avalos each had two hits. Negrete (two), Valdez, Avalos, second baseman Natalie Huelster, leftfielder Lucero Alcaraz, and centerfielder Marissa Moreno all had RBI. Shortstop Mistie Mares went 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base. Moreno and starting DP Aileen Melendres also had singles.

PCC's pitching was solid as Genesis Ramirez tossed the first four innings for the circle victory, then Mariah Vazquez twirled three innings of 2-hit shutout relief for the save.

Next Tuesday, Feb. 25, the Lancers return to SCC action in a 3 p.m. game at state #7 Long Beach City College.
