Three Pasadena City College women's basketball players from the 2023-24 Lancers playoff team are headed to the 4-year university level on playing scholarships.
All-State Third Team and All-South Coast Conference, North Division First Team guard Antuanae Garrett will play and attend as a junior at NCAA Division II Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Nicknamed "Twin," Garrett led the Lancers to an 18-11 record, the #14 postseason seed, one playoff victory over LA Valley, and a near miss in a last-minute, elimination loss to #3 Glendale, a team that went on to finish 3C2A state runner-up.
The 5-foot-6 talent averaged a team-best 17.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.3 steals per game while also grabbing an average of 8.2 rebounds (second on team).
Guard Vanessa Epperson commited to D2 Texas Women's University (Denton, TX). An All-SCC Second Team choice, Epperson averaged 13.6 points a game, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals. She was second on the team just behind Garrett (47) in 3-point baskets with 45.
Center Crystal Smith will play in Southern California at NAIA La Sierra University in Riverside. Smith averaged 4.8 points, 6.6 rebounds while leading the Lancers in blocked shots with 29.
All three players were sophomore transfers to PCC and played their one Lancers season under long-time head coach Joe Peron, the winningest coach in the school's athletics history and architect of the first women's sports state champion team at the college in 2009.
