Ranked #2 in both the CCCSIA State Top 20 and the national United Soccer Coaches poll, the Pasadena City College women's soccer team saw an end to the program's school-record, 7-match win streak on Tuesday night. Host Citrus competed hard and kept the Lancers from getting enough quality scoring chances in a 0-0 tie.
PCC (7-0-1) is still undefeated after eight games, but the team's stalwart defense produced the seventh shutout of the season. Citrus put just three shots on goal as the Owls (1-0-1) concentrated on playing a defensive style to clog the middle of the field in front of its goalie.
Pasadena nearly kept its win string going, but in the 78th minute, Destiny Delgado's penalty kick attempt struck the crossbar.
The Lancers were limited to 11 shots on goal at Citrus goalkeeper Liliana Miramontes, who made six saves.
PCC's next challenge is a big one as it hosts state #3 Chaffey on Tuesday, Oct. 1. A 2 p.m. kickoff at Robinson Stadium.
