It was the throw of the year for Liz Ghazanchian as her discus toss of 144 feet, 5 inches in the Southern California Championships came within an inch of the Pasadena City College women's track and field school record on Friday. Ghazanchian placed third in the regional finals held at San Diego Mesa College.

Ghazanchian, a sophomore, was just shy of tying Michelle Bryant's 144-6, PCC record toss back in 1993. Her throw ranks her #3 in the state as she qualified for the 3C2A State Championships next Friday-Saturday, May 19-20 at Modesto Junior College.

Joelyne Garcia had placed fifth in the javelin with a 106-0 launch at the SoCal Prelims on May 5, also at SD Mesa. Garcia also has qualified for the state meet as she currently 16th-ranked in California and has a season-best so far of 108-5 peformed at the South Coast Conference finals.

With the 10 scoring points between the pair, the Lancers placed in a tie for 18th (with Compton) at SoCal. The team took 15th in the region last season.
