The Lancers improved to 1-1 in the division and 6-9 overall. Chaffey and East Los Angeles are each 1-0 while Rio Hondo is 1-1. Mt. SAC dropped to a surprising 0-2 in what is expected to be a wide-open race to the title and an automatic playoff berth for the champion.

Leslie Rivera led the Lancers with 11 kills, five set assists, five digs and two aces. Camille Ferguson added eight kills, 11 digs and three aces while Abby Martin contributed seven kills and three aces. Emily Ramirez made a team-best 18 digs. Danielle Johnson had four kills and three blocks.

In the first set, PCC used a 4-0 run to take the game after being tied 21-21. Johnson served an ace and Janell Currier landed a kill for set point in the short rally.

In set 2, the Lancers trailed 14-13, and then led by one at 23-22. A Mt. SAC attack error was followed by a set-clinching block by Ferguson and Johnson and a 2-0 games lead for PCC.

In the third set, Pasadena grabbed control, leading 14-7, then 17-10 and then 23-14. The Mounties wouldn't quit and went on an 8-0 run to cut it to one at 23-22. Rivera, though, drilled a kill for match point and a 2-point Lancers set triumph.

Coach Mike Terrill's Lancers next face host Rio Hondo College on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in a 5 p.m. conference contest.
