A little adversity is a good thing in sports. The state No. 9-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team managed to fight off the effects of a 3-set loss at now #12-rated Moorpark on Sept. 11 and rolled to a pair of victories Sept. 13 at the PCC Quad #2 hosted off-campus at Citrus College.

The Lancers are 8-2 thus far and will finally get to play on the resurfaced home floor at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium this Wednesday, Sept. 18 in a 5 p.m. match v. unranked Riverside City College. It is the team's official home opener.

Last Friday, PCC swept Citrus, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, then rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a resounding message over Antelope Valley, 19-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-12, as the Lancers limited the Marauders to just 39 points over the final three sets.

In the Citrus win, Erykah Wilson landed 11 kills (hit .421) and served four aces while Janell Currier scored nine kills and twirled all five of her aces in the opening set. Paulina Lopez added five kills in just seven attempts.

Against AVC, Wilson put on another show with 16 kills as she was efficient as it gets with a .692 attack percentage in 23 attempts with just one error. Currier added 14 kills, nine digs and three aces while Nalani Young tallied 12 kills and 15 digs. Setter Nikki Hernandez dished out 41 assists and served three aces (and two block assists) while libero Grace Crawford totaled 15 digs and four assists. Defensive specialist Saku Yoshioka had 11 digs and three aces.

In the Moorpark defeat, Crawford had 21 digs and Young scored a team-high 10 kills. Wilson had eight kills (.278) and Currier made eight kills and 11 digs.

"Our team showed a great deal of resiliency this past week," said Lancers head coach Mike Terrill. "The Moorpark match wasn't our best effort, due in part to how well  Moorpark played. The next day there was better focus at practice and a great deal of improvement. Our players showed how committed they are to continually adapt and learn because the skills we worked on in practice carried over to our Friday matches."
