Women's Volleyball Starters Show Their #18 State Ranking Well

Playing against a program that just restarted after a 14-year absence from the sport, the state #18 Pasadena City College women's volleyball team starting unit made sure it would be at its most efficient in the Lancers' South Coast Conference match v. visiting Los Angeles City on Wednesday evening.

PCC hit .619 with no attack errors for 13 kills and added five aces in a resounding 21-point, first set win en route to sweeping the winless Cubs, 25-4, 25-15, 25-14. Pasadena upped its record to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the SCC. 

Starters Emma Yogan (five kills, .714 hitting in seven swings), Lindsay Delgadillo (nine set assists, three aces), Reese Roper (three digs and an ace), Ashley Gilbert (one kill in one swing), and libero Makayla Chiechi (four digs) all played just that opening set. Fellow starters Ariana Pedroza (five kills and two blocks, .333) and Karsyn Gwinnup (five kills, .364, one ace) got extra playing time in the last two sets. 

While the PCC second unit had some off moments, that crew was led by Ashley Marrone with six kills (.600 in 10 attempts), Chayse Hoon (five kills, .400, three digs and two block assists), Shaylee Ungos (set 10 assists, one ace), and Itzel Aguayo (three aces, two blocks, one kill). 

Kamea Vongfak added eight set assists and one ace, Karmen Turner seven digs and an ace, Kyley Chang two kills and two blocks, and Katie Carius had one kill. 

Overall, the Lancers hit .356 with just seven attack errors and served 13 aces. 

For LACC (0-9, 0-4), Apple Tabudlong scored six kills and Alina Morales served well with two aces. 

On Friday, Sept. 27, the Lancers face off with host state #9-ranked Long Beach City College.
