The Pasadena City College women's volleyball team saw its 2023 season come to an end on Tuesday as #4 seed Irvine Valley swept the Lancers, 25-16, 25-21, 25-16, in Round 2 of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. PCC finishes at 19-9 overall.

Emma Yogan scored 11 kills, Lindsay Delgadillo set 26 assists and served two aces, Ashley Marrone belted six kills, Ashley Gilbert five kills and two blocks, Makayla Chiechi made 11 digs, and Ariana Pedroza totaled four block assists--all in their final match as Lancers in their 2-year careers.

Freshman Kamea Vongfak had six digs, letterman Kyley Chang had three kills and two blocks, frosh Katie Carius scored three kills while sophomore Reese Roper added four digs.

The #13 seed Lancers lost in a sea of errors, including 30 errant attacks and eight service outs plus seven receive mistakes contributing to 45 of Irvine Valley's 75 total points scored.

PCC led 14-7 in the second set, and held a 19-17 advantage on a Yogan kill, but the Lasers roared back to take the set.

PCC head coach Mike Terrill was less than pleased in his team's efforts.

"We played at times as if we were okay with losing," he said. "We did not compete and in fact helped Irvine beat us. Credit to IVC, they're a talented team with a good system and well-coached. But bottom line, you cannot score more than half the points for the other the team and expect to win. We weren't able to to tap into our full potential at the end of the season and that's disappointing."

On the entire season, Terrill was more upbeat: "I enjoyed coming into the gym every single day to coach some amazing people. Our team improved over the year, and we had some great moments, including giving the SCC champ Rio Hondo its only conference loss."

Yogan finished her illustrious PCC career as the program's second, all-time leader in kills with 612 and had 80 aces, Delgadillo closed with 1,064 digs and Chiechi totaled 612 digs and 74 aces. Gilbert reached 114 blocks.
