#9 Women's Volleyball Gets By #8 Ventura In 4 Sets

The state #9-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team continues a strong start to the '24 season in downing #8 Ventura on the road, 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, on Wednesday night.

Chayse Hoon powered 14 kills while Biko Hollie had a double-double on 13 kills and 14 digs. Savannah Curtis slammed 10 kills (hit .471) and added three blocks while recently named State Player of the Week Shaylee Ungos contributed six kills, 29 set assists, 12 digs and two blocks. Kamea Vongfak contributed three aces, 11 assists and five digs, and Emily Licon defended well with 23 digs.

In a pivotal third set, Ventura led 4-1, then 14-11, but the Lancers roared back on a 12-2 run to put the game away. In the fourth set, PCC led 8-6, then pulled away on a 7-1 spurt and never looked back.

Coach Mike Terrill's Lancers travel to play in the first NorCal v. SoCal Showcase on Friday-Saturday, Aug. 30-31 at Fresno City College. 

PCC will face North powerhouses in #7 Fresno (11 a.m.) and #4 San Joaquin Delta (3 p.m.) on Friday, then #5 Feather River (10 a.m.) and #3 Sierra (2 p.m.) on Saturday.
