
Never before in Pasadena City College women's volleyball history had two Lancers each reached 20 kills in the same match. That is until Friday night when Biko Hollie hammered 24 kills and Chayse Hoon powered 20 as the Lancers outlasted host El Camino in five sets, 25-21, 25-14, 24-26, 25-27, 15-6.
The state #21-ranked Lancers have won three straight to up their overall record above .500 at 12-11.
The H Brigade was in full view as Machijah Harville added six kills and three blocks. PCC scored a season-high 58 kills.
Hollie has been a force all season and she took 68 swings (.279 hitting percentage), made a season-high 21 digs, had three blocks, set three assists, and served two aces. Hoon, who has one of the strongest right arms in the state, pounded the ball 46 times (hit .261) and added two blocks.
Hollie and Hoon are #1 and #2, respectively, in kills to lead the South Coast Conference, Hollie with 280 and Hoon with 234.
Redshirt sophomore libero Emily Licon defended a career-high 29 digs, served five of the team's 14 aces, and dished out seven assists. Licon leads the South Coast Conference in digs at 4.85 per set.
After the Lancers lost two extra-point sets v. feisty El Camino, PCC served well in the fifth set with Licon, Hollie and Daniela Millot all with aces. Hoon landed three kills while Hollie and Harville picked up two each in the deciding game.
Setter Kamea Vongfak finished with 41 assists and 16 digs while Marina Segura placed three aces and had six digs. Savannah Curtis added four kills.
On October 18, PCC swept host Los Angeles City, 25-8, 25-15, 25-10. Elena Uribe totaled seven kills and 12 digs, Brianna Galvan scored four kills, Vongfak served four of the team's 14 aces, Millot collected three kills, six digs and two aces, Maggie Hunter had three kills and three aces, and Mahrie Bedjakian tallied three kills.
Next Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Lancers go up against state #12 Cerritos College in a 6 p.m. match at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
