A First For WWP: 3-Game SCC Win Streak

For the first time in Pasadena City College women's water polo program history, the Lancers have put together a 3-game winning streak during South Coast Conference play. PCC posted a 14-5 victory over Rio Hondo Wednesday at the Aquatic Center.

The Lancers also upped their overall record to 7-6 and SCC mark to 3-2 as the team is off to its best start to a year since 2007. 

Against Rio Hondo, the Lancers jumped out to a 5-1 halftime lead, then opened the floodgates with eight straight goals by early in the fourth quarter. Leading 13-1, PCC head coach Terry Stoddard put in his second string as the Roadrunners scored four late goals all by Emilie Eastman. PCC goalie Clarque De Young was outstanding as she made six saves, including stopping a penalty shot attempt at the start of the second quarter.

The Lancers twice scored on the power play and also had two penalty shot goals by Kyrsten Proctor, who added a team-high four assists and four steals. Team captain Ariahn Givens scored four goals and contributed five steals and fellow sophomore Sharon Perez scored two goals, dished out two assists and made five steals. Irma Sarac chipped in two goals and two assists.

Off the PCC bench, Daizsa Caldwell scored two goals as did Megan Mora

The Lancers' defense went into the game as allowing the least amount of goals of any SCC team thus far (now 93 in 13 games). Pasadena outscored its last three opponents, 35-9. The team has allowed four goals or less in five of its wins.

PCC will play four games this Friday-Saturday, Oct. 16-17 at the Citrus Tournament. The Lancers open with a 10:10 a.m. game Friday v. Santa Monica followed by a 5:10 p.m. start v. San Diego Miramar. On Saturday, the tourney continues with matches at 9:10 a.m. against Los Angeles Valley anClarque De Youngs with a 3 p.m. game v. host Citrus.
