Gloria Gray made three big blocks in the final minute and Mia Hernandez scored four goals as the Pasadena City College women's water polo team edged host East Los Angeles College, 6-5, on Wednesday in a South Coast Conference game.

Gray totaled 11 saves overall and was instrumental with a team-high four steals (and an assist) in helping the Lancers end a 9-game losing streak to start the 2022 season. The Lancers are 5-0 against the Huskies dating back to the 2019 season.

Hernandez shot 50 percent and scored a natural hat trick to open the contest. PCC led 4-1 but ELAC tied it at 4-4 in the fourth quarter. Savannah Ortiz scored to take a 5-4 lead and Hernandez tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal with 1:28 left.

Marina Schulz added two assists and Nickey Hale a goal and one assist.

"We played great defense and blocked nine of their 21 shots," said PCC head coach Terry Stoddard. "Mia finished her attempts well in that first quarter and came up with a big goal late in the game. After ELAC cut it to one, Gloria saved the game for us with two huge saves, one with four seconds left."

The Lancers next play in the Citrus Tournament on Friday, Oct. 14, facing the host Owls at 8 a.m. and then LA Valley at 11:30 a.m.
