Olivia Ruiz continued her rise in the SoCal ranks and teammate Meline Minasian had perhaps her best run of the year as the Pasadena City College women's cross country team raced to eighth place at the Golden West Central Park Classic meet held Friday morning in Huntington Beach.

The freshman Ruiz placed 12th individually out of 105 racers over the 5-kilometer course in a time of 20:49.33. She built on her strong performance at last week's SoCal Preview Meet (25th).

Minasian, also a freshman, scored 36th with a 22:18.70 run as she has been improving in every race this season.

The rest of the scoring Lancers included sophomore Raylin Galvan (78th, 26:15), frosh racer Nathalia Caramaschi (80th, 26:37), and Cora Jiron (100th, 31:07).

Saddleback's Dana McGrath won the race at 19:37.03 while Riverside City won the team title over 10 other scoring colleges.

The women's squad, coached by Innocent Egbunike, will return to competition on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Cerritos Falcons Invitational.
