The Pasadena City College women's cross country team scored as a team for the first time since 2019 when it placed sixth at the South Coast Conference Championships held Friday at Harbor City's Ken Malloy Regional Park.

The Lancers also learned it will get to participate as a team as an at-large qualifier at this week's Southern California Championships to be held Friday, Nov. 3 at Long Beach's El Dorado East Regional Park.

Freshman Kayla Ma earned the top Lancer racer title as she scored 35th place in a time of 23 minutes, 02.4 seconds over the 3-mile course. In the 52-runner field, Melissa Le followed Ma in 39th (24:08.5), then Summer Hamilton in 40th (24:44). Isabella Evans crossed the finish in 48th (27:01.6) and Alejandra Penaloza was 49th (27:06). Penaloza was the team's top racer at the SCC race last year in 34th.

Emily Dean was 54th in 29:43. All six PCC racers, coached by Innocent Egbunike, get rewarded to run at the SoCals this week.
