As a sprinter on the PCC track and field team, Dave Morris put on a clinic at the 1962 state championship meet. Morris won the 100-yard dash state title in a lightning fast 9.5 seconds, then set a national JC record of 20.3 seconds to win the 220. He broke school records previously held by PJC great Mack Robinson (Morris ran a 9.4 prior to state for the 100 school record that still stands). He went on to compete at USC in 1963-1964. He ran the second fastest time in Trojans history in the 100 yards at 9.3.
