The Pasadena City College football team landed six players on the 2021 SCFA Scholar-Athlete Team and not surprisingly it was a roll call of most of the Lancers top talents from their SoCal Bowl/American Division Mountain League champion squad.
Maintaining a 3.0 grade point average, completing 27 academic-only units out of at least 36, and playing two seasons were the qualifications achieved by star quarterback and All-AML First Teamer Kade Wentz (3.92 GPA), top wide receiver Wheeler Smith (3.72), 2-time, All-State defensive back Kaydon Spens (3.50), Lancers all-purpose yards leader and co-team captain Justen Campbell (3.30), and All-American/AML Defensive Player of the Year linebacker Lucio Rodriguez (3.20).
Nose tackle JeanCarlos Paz made the list with a 3.18 GPA after making the switch from offensive lineman to defense his sophomore season.
Wentz's GPA was the fifth highest of the 96 SoCal Region players on the Scholar-Athlete List.
PCC head coach Robert Tucker, the Region IV State Coach of the Year, said on Twitter about the scholar-athlete awards, "Congrats to these PCC Lancers, who were champions on the field and in the classroom. I'm so proud of their leadership and how they have represented the college and our team with class."
