A banner year in Pasadena City College women's soccer resulted in Terryn Soelberg honored as South Region Coach of the Year while three of her players made the All-State Team in sophomores Charlie Gallardo, Itzel Nunez and Francesca Agliolo.
In just four years directing the Lancers program, Soelberg has brought PCC to new heights, including a 2024 season that produced a new school record for most victories (19-2-2 record), a new record for longest win streak (10), a South Coast Conference Tournament title, a new record 14 team shutouts, two playoff wins and the team's first trip to the SoCal Regional Finals.
Soelberg reached her milestone 50th career victory a Round 3 quarterfinals, 3-0 victory over Ventura. In the past two seasons alone, Soelberg has coached the team to a 36-6-6 record and also a school-record for longest undefeated streak at 13 games (9-0-4) in 2023.
Gallardo, a 2-time, All-SCC First Team selection at midfielder, was the leading scorer in the entire 10-team conference this season, and made the All-State Team to conclude a Lancers career that saw her score 27 goals, 15 assists and 69 points, placing her seventh on PCC's All-Time Scoring List. In this past season, she tallied three hat tricks, scored 17 goals and added nine assists. She is known for her outstanding playmaking abilities, ball control and overall skill that makes her in a future PCC Athletes Hall of Fame candidate.
Also earned All-State was Nunez, a 2-time, All-SCC defender, who proved to be one of the best defensive players in community college soccer in her two years. A physical player, Nunez was also a supremely skilled talent who is strong at headers both in the defensive zone to clear out opponent opportunities and near the opposing net on corner kicks by Gallardo. She also displayed strong ball-handling skills to create transition plays upfield. She was a big reason why the team limited opponents to just 0.56 goals per game.
Agliolo was rewarded All-State for a season that saw her make 67 saves for a .882 save percentage and be a part of 10 shutouts with goalie teammates Natalia Portillo and Layla Hoyo. Also an All-South Coast First Team selection, Agliolo had a 12-2-2 overall record and stopped several penalty kicks in key moments over her two seasons.
She has the distinction of the two lowest goals against averages in a season by a PCC goalie playing at least 1,000 minutes with a 1.18 mark as a freshman and her 0.57 GAVG this season, third best in the state in 2024. In 37 career games, she was a part of 14 team shutouts and seven others with one goal against, produced a 23-5-4 goalie record, and an .842 save percentage with 139 saves
