The state #21-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team attacked at a season-best .390 percentage in sweeping Rio Hondo, 25-14, 25-8, 25-10, in a South Coast Conference North Division contest at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium Wednesday night.

PCC is inching toward the .500 mark after a grueling non-conference schedule as it is 10-11 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The Lancers losses are a who's who of top-ranked teams including #1 San Joaquin Delta, #2 Long Beach CC, #3 San Diego Mesa, #4 Fresno CC, #5 Sierra, #8 Feather River, #9 LA Mission, #10 Santa Barbara CC, #11 Moorpark, #13 Mt. San Antonio, and #T25 Mt. San Jacinto. PCC's best wins were at the start of the year v. #7 Grossmont and #17 Ventura.

Leading the hitting charge v. Rio Hondo was Chayse Hoon, who came off the bench to blast 11 kills in just 14 swings (.786), after recently selected State Player of the Week Biko Hollie did the early work with seven kills. Middle blockers Savannah Curtis and Brianna Galvan added five kills each.

Eleven PCC players landed at least one kill including three by Maggie Hunter, and two each by Machijah Harville, Elena Uribe and Mahrie Bedjakian. Coach Mike Terrill utilized 15 players, including Cindy Phan who saw her first action and recorded a dig.

Harville was a serving wizard as she floored five aces while Emily Licon twirled three and added 15 digs and four set assists. Juyeon Lee contributed two aces and nine digs while Kamea Vongfak had two aces and dished out 26 assists.

Marina Segura defended well with 13 digs.

At the LA Mission Tri Tourney on Oct. 12, PCC split its two matches, defeating Citrus, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20, and losing to host Mission, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16.

Against Citrus, sophomore Daniela Millot had her best match as a Lancer as she pounded 14 kills while the "H Brigade" of Hollie (13 kills, .524) and Hoon (12 kills, .458) were scoring at will. Vongfak set 40 assists, scored four kills and four aces with eight digs, Lee had three aces and 16 digs, and Licon contributed 23 digs.

Galvan chipped in six kills with three blocks and Uribe four kills as PCC posted a 2024 high with 55 overall kills.

In the loss to the Eagles, Hollie scored 11 kills and Hoon collected eight with four solo blocks.

Pasadena's biggest weakness during the season has been its struggle to win close sets. In sets decided by the minimum two points, the Lancers have won just nine of 25 games (.360 percentage). In all other sets, PCC is 28-21 (.571).

The Lancers will likely reach the .500 mark for the first time since starting the season at 3-0 when they play at Los Angeles City on Friday, Oct. 18 in a 6 p.m. SCC North match.
